Position Description:


POSITION SUMMARY

This teacher will work collaboratively with school personnel in providing, implementing, designing and adapting instructional programs for the special educational needs of identified students in a variety of settings. A primary focus is the establishment of a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement for all students while considering the background and developmental level of the individual student.
 
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Sample duties may include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Effectively work with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Utilize effective, proactive behavioral management skills within all school settings.
  • Collaboratively lead functional assessments and develop Behavior Support Plans with student centered involvement.
  • Utilize effective instructional strategies making data based instructional decisions.
  • Adapts/modifies regular classroom and transition curriculum and activities as appropriate for students.
  • Implement individual educational programs for students.
  • Provide, implement, design and adapt individual/group academic and behavioral programs in all school settings aligning instruction with district and state benchmarks
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, staff and community populations.
  • Establish and maintains open lines of communication with students and parents/guardians concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Administer assessments, collect and interpret data to monitor student progress
  • Manage fiscal components and documentation of the program activities, as appropriate.
  • Utilize technology fluently to manage all the components of student programs and workplace needs.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to conduct functional behavior assessments and designing and implementing behavior support plans.
  • High level of expertise in working with students with a wide range of disabilities.
  • Understand and apply IDEA and Oregon rules that govern the operation of Special Education.
  • Knowledge of curriculum-based measurement, research-based practices in effective special education instruction and the ability to implement comprehensive interventions.
  • Ability to integrate diverse perspectives and cultural competency into everyday work.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY

  • Valid Oregon teacher’s certificate with a Handicapped Learner or Special Education Endorsement
  • Previous Special Education Experience preferred.
  • ESOL endorsement preferred and/or Bilingual skills preferred.
