Position Description:

 THIS POSTING ESTABLISHES A POOL OF CANDIDATES FOR INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT - 1:1 (AUTISM) FOR VARIOUS SCHOOLS DURING THE 2009/10 SCHOOL YEAR AS VACANCIES ARISE.

PAY RANGE:  $14.47 - $17.63     PAY GRADE:  9

WORK YEAR:  Various    HOURS/DAY: Various

 

POSITIONS WE ARE CURRENTLY RECRUITING FOR:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist a certified teacher in class planning, instituting behavioral management programs, and providing instructional services to special needs students.  Perform other related work as required. Position will be supporting a student with autism.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Experience working with students with autism and behavior support needs.
  • Experience providing direct support to students with special needs in a high school or transitional setting.
  • Strong ability to work with students with autism, behavior difficulties and mental health issues.
  • Ability to present instructional material in a clear, sequenced manner while sensitive to the needs of students and their ability to comprehend.
  • Ability to carry out behavior program that is in place for student.
  • Ability to work with students who may exhibit aggressive behaviors
  • Ability to observe, interpret and record data involving the academic record and behavior of students.
  • Ability to supervise individual or groups of high students in an instructional setting
  • Ability to type, prepare classroom materials, operate standard office machinery such as computer or copier and operate a/v equipment


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY:
Completion of at least two years of post-secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours, 48 semester units; OR obtaining an associate’s or higher degree; OR meeting a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrating, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics.  Previous training, education or experience in instructional techniques and behavior management/modification.  MUST PASS CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK.
