Work with school district staff to evaluate children for communication disorders involving articulation, voice, fluency, and language impairments referred by the district. Conduct hearing screenings. Develop and implement individualized programs to meet individual students’ needs to correct existing communications disorders. As necessary, select programs and instructs students in the use of augmentative communication devices. Consult and collaborate with teachers and parents on speech and language disabilities and students’ daily activities. Maintain appropriate records and reports, including Medicaid billing.
1. Screen and identify communication disorders in children with special needs. Evaluate articulation, voice, fluency, and language impairments. Act as a member of multi-disciplinary team in evaluating children.
2. Develop appropriate Individualized Education Plans (IEP) to meet individual student needs to correct existing communication disorders. Consult with teachers to advise on appropriate teaching strategies.
3. Develop and provide classroom teachers, parents, and other school staff with appropriate materials to facilitate meeting children's goals. Consult and collaborate with teachers in classroom situations.
4. Case management duties include: The preparation of speech and language evaluations, progress reports, transition reports, and maintaining on-going records from the time the student enters the program until the student leaves the program.
5. Schedule case loads (classroom or pull-outs) and attend staff meetings at various locations. Drive between locations as required.
6. Other incidental duties as required.
